On the weekend, the trio was revealed via a video post on social media themed “Youth Meets Experience – Passing The Baton”, as part of the incumbent George Comissiong’s team for the elections, which was due last November but was postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In February, Comissiong, who was vice-president of the NAAATT, became acting president following Ephraim Serrette’s resignation. Serrette had been on the NAAATT board for some 15 years, 13 of which he has served as president

Former national track athletes Jehue Gordon, Zwede Hewitt and Jamaal James have been linked to one of the two slates contesting positions at the upcoming National Association of Athletics Administrations of T&T’s (NAAATT) annual general meeting (AGM) and election of officers.

Serrette had been on the NAAATT board for some 15 years, 13 of which he has served as president.

The elections are carded for November 27 at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva and members will vote for the following positions president, first vice president, second vice-president, general secretary, assistant general secretary, treasurer and directors.

According to general secretary Voisin on Monday, the deadline for submitting nominees is on Saturday (November 6).

“What is presently in the public are two slates, one led by the incumbent George Comissiong and the other by Ian Hypolite. Only at the close of nominations we would know all the nominees because it is possible for individuals to run for office, but history has shown that slates contest the elections,” he said, adding that there will be several options to participate in the AGM.

The AGM will be held at Ato Boldon Stadium for in-person vaccinated individuals and virtual for non-vaccinated and those who choose not to attend in person.”

The incumbents are Comissiong (president), Dexter Voisin (general secretary) and Durly Lucas (member) who is challenging the second vice-president post. The rest of Comissiong’ slate includes Paul Voisin (first vice-president), Michelle Stoute (assistant general secretary) and Marlene Roopchansingh Williams (treasurer).

The announcement included images of each member as well as Gordon, the 2013 Men’s 400 metres hurdles World champion, Hewitt, the 2010 men’s 400m national champion and James, a multiple men’s 800m national champion along with current second vice-president Allan Baboolal, a member of the NAAATT for the past 35 years, and Cuquie Melville, who was revealed as candidates for the position of directors on the board.

Dr Ian Hypolite will vie for the board’s top position according to a video posted on the weekend with him stating:  “Introducing a team of experience and youthful exuberance.”

It went on to display images of himself and his slate which included Sherwin Joseph, Michelle Alleyne-Pennie, Bevon Lord (assistant secretary), Damian Gopee and Aaisha Martin challenging for the respective positions.
